A DataMatrix scanner reads a two-dimensional code made of a square grid of dots. In Uzbekistan this code is used to mark goods in the Asl Belgisi system: medicines, tobacco, alcohol, water and beverages, home appliances and other categories. A laser scanner cannot read DataMatrix, so checkouts and warehouses handling marked goods need a 2D barcode scanner.
Why DataMatrix requires a 2D scanner
DataMatrix codes are small and dense: on a medicine box the code may be only a few millimetres wide. An imager captures the whole code and decodes it even when it is partly damaged, curved or glossy. MERTECH scanners with Superlead technology read crumpled and poorly printed codes, and HR versions handle especially small ones.
Any scanner in this section works with Asl Belgisi: every model reads DataMatrix and passes the full marking code to your POS software.
Which DataMatrix scanner to choose
| Task | Recommended type |
|---|---|
| Store or pharmacy checkout | handheld scanner 2210, 2310 HR |
| Busy checkout | fixed-mount 8500 Mirror, 9000 Zeus |
| Receiving and warehouse | wireless CL-2310, CL-2410 |
| Bulk receiving and stocktaking | mobile data terminal |
Connecting to POS and accounting software
MERTECH DataMatrix scanners connect via USB in keyboard or virtual COM-port mode and work with POS software and 1C. The marking code is passed in full, including control characters.

FAQ
How is DataMatrix different from a QR code?
Both are 2D codes. DataMatrix is more compact and fits small packages, which is why it is used for product marking.
